What do we like?
Fort de la Pompelle played an important role in the 1914-1918 war. It was built in 1883 as part of Reims' defences on the designs of General Séré de Rivières after the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871). It was the only fort to remain in the hands of the allied forces during WWI and protected city of Reims. Reconverted into a museum, Fort de la Pompelle contains an important military collections, of which the unique Friese collection of 560 items of headgear that belonged to the German imperial army. For the Centenary of the Great War, the site of the Fort de la Pompelle underwent significant restorations and renovations from 2013 to 2016, while the museography was redesigned. Open from: - April to September from 10 am to 6 pm - October to March from 10 am to 5 pm Yearly closure on 1 May, 14 July, 1 November and from 15 December to 17 January. Free entry the first Sunday of each month and on 11 November.
