Passage Sube
What do we like?
Reims has around 100,000 files on damage caused by war. In order to facilitate processes, owners assembled in cooperatives. Although they were encouraged by town planners, few ,projects involved reorganising the land registry. The main example is the covered passage created by the Subé Cooperative.
The operation had benefits for the city and the owners as it increased retail spaces and windows. Like the Parisian models invented at the start of the 19th century, people could walk there under shelter from bad weather and the light of high glass roofs supported by a metal structure.
The reinforced concrete walls are stone-like coated and enhanced by decorative elements in the 1925 style.
This material makes it possible to increase the number of openings on both floors with basket-handle arches, oculi and arcades, keeping the option to build higher.
