Pavillon de Muire

This house was built by Nicolas Noël, Lord ofMuire (area to the west of Reims), after a request made to the municipal magistrates in 1565. It is one of the rare examples of Renaissance architecture in Marne, with its wall decorated with hexagons, ovals and meanders (also known as Greek frets).

Crowned by a modillion cornice, the building is made up of corner turrets and mullioned windows.

This mansion was where the Cardinal de Lorraine met with Protestant theologian Theodore Beza during the Wars of Religion. It was damaged between 1914 and 1918, but sufficiently saved to be listed as a Historic Monument in 1920. The interior is decorated with beams, fireplaces and various architectural elements, both original and added.

Alongside the Hôtel du Marc, it is an exceptional place to host guests and receptions for the renowned champagne house of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin.
