There you’ll never risk pushing them too far…

As you stroll through the charming streets of the towns and villages of the Champagne vineyards, it’s clear that they live for champagne. And between Champagne houses, wine shops and tasting bars, you’ll find it hard to leave without something to replenish your cellar…

Explore Épernay from top to bottom, and from top to bottom!

Épernay from top to bottom and top to bottom!

In Épernay, we’re not the kind of people to stay on the surface of things.

As everyone knows, Sparnacians can’t resist showing you their famous cellars, arranged around theelegant and prestigious Avenue de Champagne. These form a network of some 110 km, so there’s plenty to explore!

Increasingly, they also like to take you up in the air. Of course, this is nothing new, as the emblematic Castellane tower has been testifying for over a century. But it’s not the only way to enjoy the view of Épernay and its stunning vineyards: you can take a seat aboard the Épernay Captive Balloon, near the Moët & Chandon cellars, for a flight 150 m above the ground. Panoramic views of the city and the three great vineyards of the Montagne de Reims, the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs!

And can we go even higher? Yes, Mount Bernon, which dominates the town, is 208 m high. And in 2018, the site was redeveloped so that everyone can enjoy a space for relaxing, picnicking and, of course, a new angle on the landscape.

Vineyard towns and villages around Epernay

The small neighboring town of Aÿ has the advantage of being located directly on the famous “historic hillsides” of Champagne, a Unesco World Heritage site. The narrow streets of the city center offer plenty of opportunities to taste champagnes, from family-run producers to prestigious brands.

Another option, if you prefer the great outdoors: head for Mutigny, the highest wine-growing village in Champagne (240 m), overlooking Aÿ. On a 2.2 km walking loop, you’ll learn all there is to know about champagne.
